Common Myths About Velcro Patches, Officially Busted

Common Myths About Velcro Patches, Officially Busted

It’s no secret that custom Velcro patches can be incredibly beneficial whether you’re using them for your business organization, volunteer group, or event. However, there are some common myths and misconceptions surrounding velcro patches that could be keeping you from taking advantage of these benefits yourself.

To help set the record straight, here are some of the most common myths about custom velcro patches officially busted so you can feel confident the next time you place your order.

Myth: Velcro Patches Aren’t as Durable

Custom velcro patches aren’t sewn onto clothing or ironed on. However, this doesn’t make them any less durable. In fact, custom Velcro patches are actually incredibly durable because they can be removed from their clothing. When in use, the patch is held securely in place by the velcro. When not in use, the patch can be carefully removed from the garment so the garment can be cleaned. That means you don’t have to worry about the colors of the patch fading or the patch itself wearing away because of hard use.

Myth: Velcro Patches Can Damage Your Clothes

Custom velcro patches are actually one of the best patch types if you’re worried about damaging your clothes. Because the patches can be removed at will, you don’t have to worry about doing any sewing or ironing. This also works great if the clothing you need your patch to be attached to isn’t iron-friendly. Velcro patches are especially great if you only need to wear patches for a certain period of time, such as for an event, and you want to reuse the clothing later.

Myth: Velcro Patches Aren’t as Versatile

Just like custom iron-on patches and sewn-on patches, custom Velcro patches come in a wide variety of styles and sizes. Whether you’re looking to make your sports team stand out or you need your custom velcro patches to be cut a specific way for volunteer firefighters or police officers, velcro patches can be customized to meet your unique needs.

If you’re looking for custom velcro patches for your organization, event, or team, the Artex Group has you covered. We offer both custom velcro patches and apparel for your custom patches so you can find everything you need all in one place. Custom Iron-On Patches: How to Apply Them in 5 Simple Steps

Custom Iron-On Patches: How to Apply Them in 5 Simple Steps

,

Nothing feels quite as cool as having custom iron-on patches to apply to your jacket, bag, or uniform. But how exactly does a heat press transfer your patch onto your clothes? Here, we’ve compiled a simple five-step process to help you transfer your custom iron-on patches to your clothes without breaking a sweat.

Step #1: Get Your Patch and Assemble Your Supplies

Custom iron-on patches are a great way to express yourself no matter your aesthetic. They also help you avoid having to put in the extra time it would take to sew the patch onto your clothes yourself. No one wants to have to sit down and worry about potentially messing up their jacket or their new custom patch with a bad sewing job.

With custom iron-on patches, all you need to do is grab your favorite jacket, pair of jeans, or bag along with a patch design you really love. You also want to be sure to have a heat press, a pressing cloth, pins, and measuring tape on hand.

Step #2: Set Up the Heat Press

Before you begin applying your custom iron-on patches, you want to be sure that the clothing you’re using the heat press on can take the heat. You won’t be able to use an iron-on patch on materials like nylon or rayon. A rain jacket is also not a good choice. Instead, choose clothing that’s made from cotton or polyester. Once you have your clothes and your heat press is ready, you’ll want to turn your heat press on to the highest heat setting.

Step #3: Carefully Position the Patch

Use a measuring tape to center your custom iron-on patch in the right place on your piece of clothing. If you’re applying the patch to a jacket, you can pin the patch onto the sleeve or lapel so you can figure out the best positioning for it while looking in the mirror. A patch that looks good on a jacket when laid flat may not look as good when you wear the jacket, so make sure you position the patch correctly to avoid a decision you might regret.

Step #4: Press the Heat Press

Use a pressing cloth, handkerchief, or cotton pillowcase between the iron-on patch and the heat press. You don’t want to apply direct heat to the surface of the patch or you run the risk of damaging the patch. Hold the heat press down on the pressing cloth covering the iron-on patch and hold it in place for 30 to 45 seconds.

Step #5: Turn the Clothing Inside Out and Repeat

After you’ve applied the heat press to the cloth-covered patch for 30 to 45 seconds, turn your jacket or other items of clothing inside out. Lay the clothing flat. Position your pressing cloth, handkerchief, or cotton pillowcase over the reverse side of the patch. Place the heat press over the cloth and hold for 30 to 45 seconds. Allow the patch and clothing to cool. The patch will now be secured completely to your clothes.

Guide to Martial Arts Patches

The Artex Group’s Guide to Martial Art Patches

Whether you practice MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Karate, or Taekwondo or you no doubt want a high-quality martial arts patch to add to your uniform. These patches can signify your rank, tournaments you’ve participated in, or even the school you train with. Understandably, you want a durable & attractive patch to highlight your accomplishments.

But with so many different styles of patches on the market, you might be wondering which material would work best for you? Perhaps you need to add a patch to a pair of Muay Thai shorts? Or you might be looking for a way to affix a patch to your karate gi? In order to help you make a decision, we’re going to offer some insights on how to best add a patch to your uniform, and discuss which patch materials work the best.

What’s The Best Patch Backing Material For Martial Arts Patches?

As many martial arts uniforms (such as Karate & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gis) are made of heavy cotton, a sew-on patch or a heat seal patch is likely your best bet. Both of these options will give you a strong and long-lasting patch. If you’re looking for a patch for MMA or Muay Thai shorts it’s best to find a patch that will attach easily to polyester or micro fabric. In this case, both heat seal & sew-on patches will work just fine.

What Type of Patch Would Work Best for Custom Martial Arts Patches?

We generally recommend using a woven patch for use with a gi or other martial arts attire. Our Woven patches are combined with embroidery to provide plenty of intricate detail. This will give your patch a beautiful details and bright colors while also providing you with a durable patch that will stand up to repeated wear & tear. The good news is that our martial arts patches are just as tough as the martial artists that wear them!

How Should I Attach A Martial Arts Patch To My Uniform?

The cotton of a martial arts gi makes sewing a patch on quite simple and requires only a needle and thread or a sewing machine. Heat seal patches can be added to a gi quite easily as well. Of course, you’ll need to use a heat press in order to properly attach the patch.

MMA & Muay Thai shorts are commonly made from polyester, spandex, or mico fabric. These materials are fine for an embroidered patch, and it’s a quick process to sew them on. Heat seal patches from the Artex Group can also be added to polyester. The most important thing to remember is that you must be careful when using heat-seal patches on polyester. High temperatures aren’t recommended for polyester, so as long as you are using low heat for your patch you should be fine.

Do you need some help with a custom patch for your Dojo or martial arts school? The Artex Group can help bring your dream to life with a high-quality and durable patch that will make your logo stand out. You don’t even need to worry if you don’t have a logo. New Patch Owners Guide: How To Attach Patch On A Hat

New Patch Owners Guide: How To Attach Patch On A Hat

,

So, you’ve received your new Artex Group custom patch, and no doubt you love it. But maybe you’re a bit new to sewing or using a heat press and aren’t sure how to affix it to your hat. Well, you’re in luck, because our new series of articles is here to help new patch owners learn the basics of caring for their custom patch. So without further ado here is our guide to attaching a patch on a hat.

How To Sew A Patch On A Hat

Assuming you have an embroidered patch, or any other patch that can be readily sewed, then sewing the hat patch on is a quick and durable way to display your new patch. You’ll really only need a few things to get started, and it’s a very simple process:

  • Please order your patch with our sticky back adhesive. It will allow you to properly place your patch and keep it there while sewing.

  • After you’ve done that you’ll need to find a sewing needle and some thread. We recommend using bonded nylon thread and a topstitch or leather needle. The nylon thread will be tough and last longer than other threads.

  • Once you’ve cut your thread and threaded the needle be sure to tie a knot at the end. You won’t need much thread, maybe 2 feet or so.

  • Start from the inside of the hat so that your knot won’t be exposed. Try to keep your stitching even and consistent, and make sure that you stitch along the edge of your patch.

Using A Heat Press To Attach A Hat Patch

A heat press is a great way to attach a patch if you have one handy. But given the shape of a hat, it might not seem easy to affix a heat press patch. So how should you attach a patch with a heat press? The easiest way to do it is to make sure that your heat press has a mold that can fit the shape of the hat. From there it’s as easy as:

  • Laying down a finishing sheet on the press

  • Order your patch with our sticky back adhesive so you can properly place your patch and keep it there prior to heating. The sticky back also acts as a heat seal too.

  • Once the patch is in place, begin the heat cycle for approximately 15-20 seconds.  We recommend a temperature range of 330-360 and a minimum of 50 pounds of pressure.

  • Make sure to give the patch and hat some time to cool down, and you’ll have a brand new stylish hat patch!

Gluing A Patch To A Hat

Though not the easiest or the most recommended method, you can attach a patch using fabric glue. One thing to note is that the glue may not last forever, but may provide a few years of adequate use. The process itself is as easy as it comes:

  • Remember to order your patch with our stick-back adhesive for additional adhesion. Then apply some glue to the back of the patch.  A thin layer applied to the border and center should do the trick.

  • Apply the patch by hand to the hat and apply firm pressure for at least 30 seconds.

  • Let the glue dry for a few hours

  • Make sure to keep an eye on your patch after you apply it to make sure it’s not coming loose or starting to fall off.

2. Ease of Use

We offer many types of backings for our patches that make affixing them a cinch. That being said, our velcro patches are perhaps the easiest to attach and offer a high level of reuse. Hunting & Fishing Patches – Selecting The Right Patch For You

In the first of an ongoing series of blog articles, we’re going to be helping you find the custom patch or badge to best fit your needs. Today we’ll be setting our sights on the great outdoors and discussing the best fishing or hunting patches for your next expedition!

What should you look for in a fishing or hunting patch? If you plan on spending lots of time outdoors you’ll need a patch that’s durable. We proudly manufacture patches that stand up to the elements, even in the most adverse conditions. Our patches will remain attractive years after you’ve bought them.

But just being durable isn’t the only thing to look for in your embroidered hunting patch. Just like a patch for any other article of clothing, you want the one you choose to be stylish and attractive. That’s why it’s important to choose a high-quality patch made from durable materials.  Fortunately, we offer patches made from various substances that offer you a variety of styles to choose from. Let’s look at a few & discuss why they might be right for you!

PVC Hunting & Fishing Patches

PVC patches are made from a soft rubber that can make a great choice for your fishing or hunting club’s patch. One of the most notable elements of PVC patches is the ability to provide attention and detail to the small elements of your logo.  Small fonts are no problem. Most people notice how intense the colors are and PVC patches are both waterproof and windproof, making them great for outdoor use.

Advantages of PVC patches:

  • A long-lasting patch that will retain its color for years to come

  • Waterproof and weatherproof

  • Easy cleaning

  • Ability to show small print in detail

Embroidered Hunting & Fishing Patches

Embroidered patches are very traditional and have been a staple of the hunting/fishing industries for decades.  Our patches are a cost-effective way to make sure that your hunting or fishing club looks stylish in the wilderness! We offer a variety of different backings too. This will make it easy to affix your patch(es) to clothes, hats, vests, etc.

There are some advantages for embroidered patches that you should bear in mind when making a purchase, which we’ve listed here:

Advantages of embroidered patches:

  • Flexible and easily affixed to any garment

  • Cost-effective if you need patches for a large group

  • Polyester threads will not fade wash after wash

Dye Sublimated Patches

Dye sublimated patches are patches that have had the design printed on to their top layer. This process uses heat transferring that will prevent your patch from fading with time or repeat washes. Furthermore, a dye-sublimated patch can have additional embroidery added to bring your idea to life.

Much like PVC patches, a dye-sublimated patch will be resistant to exposure to the elements. This makes a patch like this an attractive option for those that are looking for a patch that will see lots of outdoor use. If your hunting or fishing club is looking for patches this might be the right choice with you. After all, who wants a patch that will fade quickly?

Advantages of dye sublimated patches:

  • Long term durability for a patch, especially when compared to other printing methods

  • Since it’s print based, the attention to fine detail is incredible.

Woven Patches

Many fishing clubs and hunting clubs use woven patches for their custom patches. This is due to the high level of detail that woven patches allow in their design. This becomes quite apparent when compared to other styles of embroidered patches. If you’re worried that your club’s patch features a logo with many small details then this is likely the way to go.

Advantages of woven patches:

  • A high-quality patch that allows for fine detail and intricate designs

  • Can be combined with embroidery to make certain areas of the patch stand out

We hope this guide has been helpful to you. This is just the first of an ongoing series intended to help you pick the right patch for your club or organization. No matter what your needs might be, the Artex Group is always here to help!

Rider and motorcycle club piece custom patches

Rider and motorcycle club 1 & 3 piece custom patches, colors and design

,

We are in the middle of an incredible season of motorcycle riding with the Mother Nature giving us plenty of riding perfect days. With the dragon tail just miles from our main office, it’s a common sight to see a variety of riders on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Every rider or group of riders seems to share one common bound, the love of the road on two wheels.

A few weeks ago, a fellow biker friend and I had a conversation about motorcycle club patches.  I make custom biker patches for a living (amongst many other types of patches) so I enjoyed discussing the many types of patches we have made over the years.  We went through a number of samples my company has made checking out the colors and designs wondering how each club arrived at a logo.

Some of the patch logos clearly gave you an idea as to what the club was about or stood for, some not so much. Generally, it seems the logos reflect the club’s philosophy but other considerations seem to be at play.  In addition to the different philosophies of Riding Clubs versus Motorcycle Clubs, each patch has its own unique look. As most of you know, there is also a vast disparity regarding RC and MC patch placement and quantities displayed.  Most RC wear one-piece patches signifying a family club, riding club and/or AMA-sanctioned motorcycle club. MC generally wears a three-piece patch selection (top and bottom rocker with the club logo in the middle).  A three-piece setup signifies that the motorcycle club is not AMA sanctioned

I would like to point out that the word “colors” is a reference to the insignia or patches worn by motorcycle club members.  Colors present a symbol of identity and represent social hierarchy within the club’s distinguishing rank.  Rank encompasses all divisions from prospects to full members generally known as patch-holders.

Recently, my neighbor (also a biker) and I visited a local joint in Asheville that caters to RC and MC clubs. Perhaps going against some of the rules of the road, I started a conversation with a gentleman (who was with an RC) sitting next to us. We started to discuss the politics of guiding rules that one must consider when visiting a bar, restaurant, etc. that is frequented by motorcycle clubs.  I had heard some of the “rules” before but found myself constantly thinking, “really I had no idea”. This guy definitely caught my attention.  If you are not well educated on the etiquette of MC interactions, I highly suggest you look into this. I can not stress how important this may be to your well-being as it was so eloquently pointed out to me.

I may be redundant here as you may already know this but being a biker patch guy who likes to see and touch patches, let me clearly state this:

Do not touch any part of club members’ patches (or colors). This is the ultimate sign of disrespect and will likely result in quick retaliation or  “an education” as the gentleman put it.  And forget about taking the iPhone out for photos, you will likely lose it in an abrupt manner

Okay, back to the friendly confines of biker patches. If you are considering a patch for your club, perhaps we should connect. There are many different styles and materials that can be used to make a very unique rider club or motorcycle club custom patch. We also work with reflective materials that are designed for nighttime safety for our client riders. Our artists can help you with the design, just give us an idea as to what your club is about and we can go from there. One word about the quality and then I will go.  Are you finding your current patches are not holding up well?  Let me state that my company is the nation’s leading provider of patches to the automotive industry so quality is our only option.

Check out the Tail of the Dragon North in Carolina and ride safely.

How to dramatically cut costs on your custom uniform patches

Trade secret: How to dramatically cut costs on your custom uniform patches.

Good news for uniform companies that order custom patches.  As you know, custom patch pricing is partially based on the quantity you order.  The more patches that are made in one production run, the more cost-efficient it is for you.  With that in mind, I highly suggest you consider this amazing cost-cutting idea and give yourself a substantial discount.

It seems that most uniform companies reorder the same custom patches numerous times throughout the year.  For example, you have a contract (or long-term purchasing history) to produce 6000 customized uniforms per year.  Like most uniform companies, you order your patches monthly or quarterly so let’s say you order 1500 patches per quarter.  Like clockwork, your patches arrive on time and like clockwork, you call your patch vendor again in 2-3 months to reorder the same patches.

This purchasing schedule may work well for you but if you have contracted clients or clients with consistent purchasing requirements, here is a secret to dramatically cutting your costs.  A “Stock and Hold” program is based on your client’s yearly usage whereby the majority of your patches are made in one production run. Since the patches are pre-made upfront, your patches are inventoried and always available at your request.   Your custom-made patches would be released and shipped as your requirements come in (weekly, monthly or quarterly).  One call and your patches will be shipped within 24 hours right to your door!  How nice is that?  You can start customizing your apparel within 24 hours of placing your order.  That’s a valuable service to be able to offer your clients.

Here’s where the program makes sense (cents).   Using the 6000 uniforms example, your pricing is based on the 6000 patches, not the monthly or quarterly quantity.  The difference in pricing between 500 (or 1500) and 6000 patches is significant. Savings would be in the 25 to 30% range.

Quick response times (receive your patches within 24 hours of calling your order in) and volume-based pricing could make this program a perfect fit for some of your clientele.  At the end of each year, whatever inventory remains would be released from the initial production run.

Artex Group offers a “Stock and Hold” program perfectly designed for uniform companies that have constant demands for custom patches. Read more about the “Stock and Hold” program for custom patches here and start saving big money on your custom embroidered patches right now.

Before you go, are you familiar with sublimated patches?  This process produces a patch with photo-realistic imagery.  You can even add embroidery giving the patch a beautiful, textured quality. They are very unique and given the incredible detail you can achieve, they offer a creative accessory option for customizing uniforms
